Facilities Team Volunteer
Mark Atchley

Creamy or crunchy? I like Crunchy a bit better

Describe yourself in 140 characters  I am a Christian, husband to Amy for 21 years, and father to three beautiful girls (Diana 16, Becca 13, Jenna 11).  I grew up in Tulsa in a typical Bible Belt Christian home.

If you could have any super hero power what would it be?  I think my choice would be teleportation.  Moving instantly between places around the world would be amazing, plus I would avoid the time and hassle of my daily commute!  In my superhero world I would be able to take a person with me.

What do you wish other people knew about The Sparrow’s Nest?  I wish more people simply knew about this ministry and understood that there is a real need with real girls right here in our community.

You are starting to serve on the Facilities Team for The Sparrow’s Nest. How did you decide to answer that need? What you looking forward to the most about this volunteer job?  First, it’s an area I have some experience and knowledge that I can put to use in a positive way.  Second, I like to serve more in the background in a supporting role and the Facilities Team is a way for me to contribute more ‘quietly’.

Who’s the most influential person in your life? Why?  I would have to say my wife is the most influential person in my life.  We have very different personalities (surprise) and make a good team together.

What might (someone) be surprised to know about you?  When I was young I spent time in the summer at my grandfather’s violin shop in Kansas City.  I’ve actually made a couple of violins, although I can’t play at all..

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with The Sparrow’s Nest?  I’d say give it a try.  You don’t have to make any long term commitments, just get involved.  There are so many ways to contribute in a ministry like this; the talents God has blessed you with are bound to be useful.  You might just find some of your “…good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” are waiting for you.  (Eph 2:10)
